RE: Coronavirus Update (COVID-19) – Monday 16th March

Dear Members,

Following the State Governments announcement today of a ‘State of Emergency’ and updated advice from Basketball Victoria in relation to COVID-19, Nunawading Basketball and the Nunawading Basketball Centre will remain closed for at least the next four weeks from Monday 16th March until Monday 13th April 2020. Basketball Victoria have advised that the suspension of all basketball related activities includes formal or organised team training, programs and events.

Tonight, the MEBA has made the incredibly tough decision to cancel the remainder of the Summer 2019/20 Season for both Junior and Senior Domestic Competitions. We appreciate that many people will be disappointed, however we trust that you will understand the incredibly difficult position that is upon us all at this time.

At this point in time the Winter 2020 season shall start as soon as we can recommence playing however, given the uncertainty of the situation at hand this decision is ever evolving and may need to be adjusted over the coming weeks and months and we shall work with all stakeholders to ensure the process is as efficient as possible.

Basketball Victoria 13/3/2020

13/3/20 – Update

Basketball Victoria has made the decision to suspend Basketball Victoria related programs, events and leagues from now March 13, until further notice. This includes ALL VJBL games, Big V games and the Country Championships being held in Ballarat this weekend.

As this is a rapidly evolving situation, we would like to thank everyone for their understanding and patience as we work through this difficult period. This is a decision we don’t take lightly and want to reassure the basketball

community that we will continue to work with the Victorian Government and other health authorities to ensure the health and wellbeing of our players, coaches, referees and staff are maintained.

Further updates will be provided in the coming days and weeks.

Nunawading Basketball 13/3/2020

RE: Coronavirus Update (COVID-19) – Friday 13th March 4pm

Dear Members,

Due to COVID-19, Nunawading Basketball has made the decision to cancel all domestic competitions at its controlled venues until further notice.

All Spectres teams will not be permitted to play in the VJBL competition if games are scheduled for tonight, Friday 13th March.

Nunawading Basketball will continue to update its members on the operations via our website and social media to ensure everyone is kept up to date. The decision to close is to reduce the chance of infection to our members and slow potential transmission and community spread of the virus. The domestic finals programs will be reviewed in line with the commencement of the 2020 Winter season and we will communicate our new schedules when they have been finalised.

Basketball Victoria 12/3/2020

If a person is supposed to be in self-isolation/quarantine because of the existence of COVID-19 in a workplace, school or elsewhere, our advice is that the individual must not participate in basketball activities, whether or not they have any symptoms, until the isolation period has expired. Playing or attending basketball does not constitute isolation.

The situation is being closely monitored and as of today, Thursday 12 March, Big V, VJBL and the Country Championships will go ahead as scheduled for this weekend (Friday 13 March – Sunday 15 March).

Dear Clubs, Players, Coaches, Referees and Parents,

Nunawading Basketball continues to monitor the situation with regard to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and is taking steps to protect members, employees and guests against the spread of the virus in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Department of Health. We therefore ask you to ensure that you comply with the guidelines issued by our Health Authorities in order to protect our basketball and wider community and limit the spread of this virus.

If you have recently travelled from, or transited through a designated country**, or have been in contact with anyone confirmed to have contracted the Coronavirus, or with anyone suspected of having such symptoms in the last 14 days, you will be required to undertake a period of self-isolation (quarantine) for 14 days. If this condition applies to you, or anyone you know, you are requested to not attend any Nunawading Basketball Venue, Club Training Venue and (for any Nunawading Spectres) any other VJBL venue in any capacity (even as a spectator) until the applicable quarantine period has expired.

**Currently, designated countries include the People’s Republic of China, Iran, Italy  and the Republic of Korea (South Korea). Other countries may be added in future days and weeks.

If you or anyone you know present symptoms similar to that of coronavirus, you are requested to exercise common sense and consider not attending any Nunawading Basketball Venue, Club Training Venue and (for any Nunawading Spectres) any other VJBL venue in any capacity (even as a spectator) until the symptoms have passed. 

Given the uncertainty of the situation evolving in Melbourne, we would ask that all parents exercise common sense and your own best judgement. Please be especially mindful if you or your child/ren attend a school with a known outbreak.

At this point in time all MEBA/GEBC Junior and Senior Domestic matches will be proceeding as scheduled.

For Nunawading Spectres players, coaches and parents, at this point in time VJBL matches are proceeding as scheduled and we will be guided by Basketball Victoria and the VJBL if anything changes.

We ask for your absolute cooperation in adhering to these guidelines for the benefit of your fellow basketball members.

We want to reassure the Basketball Victoria community that we are in close consultation with the Victorian Government, VicSport and Basketball Australia, among other key stakeholders, and are tightly monitoring the public health situation and any possible impacts regarding COVID-19 (otherwise known as “coronavirus”).  

As of Tuesday 10 March 2020, all scheduled Basketball Victoria events and fixtures – such as this weekend’s Country Championships in Ballarat, VJBL game nights and the upcoming first round of Big V – will go ahead as scheduled. 

We understand our communities concerns and we will continue to monitor community needs and consult with government and other key stakeholders and make assessments as necessary. The health and well-being of our participants is our highest priority, but it is important that people remain calm and act on the best health advice available. 

In regards to domestic fixtures, please keep in contact with your association to stay on top of information as it arises קניית ויאגרה. In addition, we ask everyone to practise high levels of hygiene health which are widely considered by health experts to be a key to disease prevention and management. 

We ask that the basketball community  follow the directions and information on COVID-19, issued by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) which can be found at: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus.
